Bovill gained notice in 2007 as a part of an improv troupe who opened for the hit show “Trippin on Tuesdays” which showcased top black comedians at L.A.’s’ famed “The Comedy Store”. Coming off the stage one night, Robin Williams, who was watching from the back remarked, “You’re a funny white guy!”. Within days, Bovill resigned from his marketing executive position in high tech and turned to acting. Two months later, he was on a plane to Europe to play redneck killer Long in WHITE LIGHTNIN’, which premiered at the 2009 Sundance Festival.
He has since accumulated over 100 tv, film and video game credits including; Adam McKay’s Oscar winning VICE, Oscar nominated 20TH CENTURY WOMEN, BETTER CALL SAUL, CSI: VEGAS, PERFECT HARMONY, RATCHED, AMERICAN HORROR STORY, HAWAII FIVE-O, NCIS, CRIMINAL MINDS, BROOKLYN NINE-NINE, CSI, YOUNG SHELDON, BOSCH, SHAMELESS, IT’S ALWAYS SUNNY IN PHILADELPHIA, CONTRABAND, GET ON UP and DEAD RISING 3.
He currently has a recurring guest star role in HBO’s hit series WINNING TIME: THE RISE OF THE LAKERS DYNASTY as Donald Sterling. Its’s a reteaming with director/writer Adam McKay after playing Henry Kissinger in VICE.
A native Nebraskan, he graduated from the University of Nebraska with a BS in Biology. He picked up an MA in Journalism from Louisiana State University. As an undergraduate and graduate student, he was a member of the coaching staffs that won five national women’s track championships with Nebraska taking three consecutive indoor titles 1982-83-84 and LSU winning the indoor and outdoor championships in 1987.
A published writer in magazines and newspapers, Bovill has written numerous TV and film scripts and is a reputable script doctor for others. He also released two critically acclaimed CD’s of original songs under the indie label, Elmo Records with his wife Joni.
He loves cycling, scuba diving, international travel, tacos and movie sets.
