Mara Newbery

Mara is a dynamic choreographer and director whose work has been seen in  some of the most prestigious and high-profile regional theatres in America. A proud member of the Stage Directors & Choreographers Society and Actors’ Equity Association, she brings a bold creative voice to every production she touches.

Her directing and choreography work is widely recognized at top institutions including Tuacahn, Paper Mill Playhouse, and Pittsburgh CLO. Key credits include White Christmas (Director/Choreographer, Tuacahn), Annie (Director/Choreographer, Tuacahn), A Christmas Story (Director/Choreographer, The John Engeman Theatre), and Matilda (Co-Director/Choreographer, Tuacahn/The Engeman Theatre). Additional notable choreography credits include Oklahoma! (North Shore Music Theatre), Anything Goes (Pittsburgh CLO), Legally Blonde (Broadway at Music Circus), Memphis (Lexington Theatre Company), Thoroughly Modern Millie (Music Theatre Wichita), Newsies (Lexington Theatre Company), A Christmas Story, The Musical (Paper Mill Playhouse/Fulton Theatre/Gateway Playhouse), Elf the Musical (The John Engeman Theatre), The Music Man (Lexington Theatre Company), The Toxic Avenger (Pittsburgh CLO), and Guys and Dolls (Music Theatre Wichita).

She is also thrilled to be directing and choreographing Finding Nemo at Tuacahn Center next summer.

As a performer, Mara has appeared on Broadway, on multiple National Tours, and at regional theatres across the country.

She splits her time between New York City and Pittsburgh with her husband, Michael, their two cats, Molly and Garfield, and their daughter, Maple.
